Tree Wardens

Lutterworth Town Council have a nominated tree warden Cllr David Gair. They gather information about local trees, get involved in local tree matters and local practical projects related to trees and woods.

The Tree Warden Scheme is a national initiative founded by The Tree Council, helping local tree enthusiasts to get involved and care for the trees in their area.

Tree Wardens can:

• Champion their local trees and woods
• Plant and care for trees
• Carry out woodland management
• Set up tree nurseries using seeds collected locally
• Survey trees and gather information about them
• Provide early warning of threats, disease, decay or vandalism
• Get together with like-minded people for training and field trips
• Spearhead Tree Council initiatives such as its Hedge Tree Campaign to reverse the decline of trees and hedges.
• Be consulted when a planning application affects trees in the area.

Carrying out work on trees.

Trees in Lutterworth are owned and maintained by different organisations and individuals:

• Trees in some public spaces are maintained by Harborough District Council
• Trees on pavements and roadsides are maintained by Leicestershire County Council
• Trees on private land, such as your or a neighbour's property, are the land owner's responsibility

Trees may also be protected by a conservation area or Tree Preservation Order. Works to trees and hedgerows may require permission. If a tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), or is situated in a designated conservation area, in most cases you will need to obtain consent before carrying out any works to that tree.
